RIEGELSVILLE BC3 ORCHARD
Preliminary Report - follow-up to follow in late May

The Riegelsville Orchard was planted in the year 2000. Two BC3 lines were established with the usual check trees:

Both survival and growth were above average over the years, and the orchard was more than ready for inoculation in 2005 (inoculations photos available here:Riegelsville Inoculation Day).

Most death at the Riegelsville orchard can be attributed to poor drainage in the northwestern corner of the property. Click here to see a map of the property and a rather striking delineation of attrition correlated to soil type (the picture is rather large, about 350KB, so give it some time to download).

Download pictures from the Reigelsville Inoculations - zip file, ~15MB in size. There are some great pictures of inoculated American, European, Chinese, F1, and, of course, BC3 trees. Each picture should be labelled with orchard number, so you can also download this PDF to see how the ratings fell with regard to tree position and cross type (about 150KB). Or, click here to go to a picture of the map (about 350KB).
