The American
Chestnut Foundation (TACF) is a non-profit organization dedicated
to restoring the American chestnut (Castanea dentata) tree to
its native forests through a scientific research and breeding
program developed by TACF's founders.Through a series of backcrossed
and intercrossed generations, TACF hopes to create a tree that
is blight-resistant and which retains as many American chestnut
traits as possible.
There's a wealth of information about chestnuts, growing chestnuts,
chestnut genetics and our breeding program that can be found around
the web. If you want to do some reading of formally published
information, these two pages will help you the most:
Journal of The American Chestnut Foundation
Newsletters of TACF Chapters
A great introduction to the basics of the TACF breeding program
